The Bundesliga's top two meet at the top: Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund both have 17 points from seven games and are the league's only unbeaten teams, with Freiburg and Leverkusen four points back on 13. Bayern won 3-1 at Freiburg last Sunday after going ahead early through Upamecano and Gnabry, and had drawn 2-2 with Arsenal in the Champions League on 21 October. Dortmund edged Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 with a goal in the 80th minute, and twice appealed for a penalty that was not given.

The clubs met most recently in the Super Cup on 22 August, when Bayern won 2-1 after leading 2-0 at half-time; Dortmund finished with ten men after Bensebaini was sent off in the 90th minute. Dortmund have not beaten Bayern in their last five Klassikers (three Bayern wins, two draws), and Vincent Kompany's side are at home, with Niko Kovac's team looking to end that run. The second meeting is on 6 March 2027.
