Premier League — The 2026/27 Season Kicks Off
The wait is over. The 2026/27 Premier League season gets underway tonight, and it follows a Community Shield that already reshaped the early-season narrative. Arsenal demolished Manchester City 3-0 in Cardiff last weekend — Riccardo Calafiori scoring after just 24 seconds, with Kai Havertz and Martin Ødegaard adding further goals either side of half-time. It was a torrid first competitive match in the City dugout for new head coach Enzo Maresca, who arrived at the Etihad this summer after Pep Guardiola's departure. Arsenal now open the defence of their title at home to newly promoted Coventry City on Friday night.
This is a season defined by managerial change at the very top of the table. Maresca's move to City leaves a vacancy at Stamford Bridge filled by Xabi Alonso, fresh off his own departure from Real Madrid, while Andoni Iraola takes his first competitive Liverpool match at Anfield's fiercest away day of the weekend against Newcastle. Fulham, meanwhile, have turned to Álvaro Arbeloa following Marco Silva's exit, setting up a fascinating West London derby against Alonso's Chelsea to close out the round on Monday night.
Saturday's card is headlined by Hull City vs. Manchester United as the newly promoted side hosts United in the Premier League for the first time, while Brentford vs. Tottenham Hotspur closes out the day. Sunday brings Manchester City's first league test under Maresca at home to Bournemouth, alongside Brighton vs. Aston Villa, before the standout fixture of the weekend: Newcastle United vs. Liverpool, live on Sky Sports. With three of the traditional "big six" appointing new head coaches over the summer, this opening round offers plenty to dig into beyond the usual markets — from early manager-bounce angles to goals markets in the newly promoted sides' fixtures.
